Shipping Directions
Shipping computers is a common occurrence. There is little reason for concern, as long as these specific guidelines are followed:
- Ship using UPS shipping services only.
- Always place an additional shipping label under a box flap or inside the box.
Packing the Item
Use bubble-type wrap or medium density foam packing. Do not use packing material such as Styrofoam or Styrofoam peanuts or similar material that holds static electricity, as it can have adverse effects on a hard drive. A basic rule of thumb to follow when shipping is the heavier the item, the more packing material required to protect the item.
- Hard Drive Shipping
Ship hard drives in an anti-static bag, surrounded by about two inches of a suitable packing material. Never ship a hard drive in an envelope. Do not use packing material such as Styrofoam or Styrofoam peanuts or similar material that holds static electricity, as it can have adverse effects on a hard drive.
Carriers frequently have boxes available at no cost.
- Laptop Computer Shipping

Two to three inches of suitable packing material surrounding the laptop should be sufficient.
